Commissioned in 1941, Richard Shove's wartime service was at sea in HMS Norfolk, in SS Group and in 45 Commando. He transferred to the FAA on 27 November 1946 and trained as a fighter pilot, completing his training on 3 October 1948.
Whilst serving in 768 Squadron he was at the Hawker factory at Langley flying a Sea Fury. Whilst taking off his engine failed and he crashed trying to return to the airfield. The crash occurred at Tver, Buckinghamshire on 9 June 1949 and he was unfortunately killed.
